Run for the Rose through the beautiful Lindsay Pettus Greenway, a hard surface trail incorporating asphalt, gravel and boardwalk surfaces. The Greenway winds through nature with 171 species of trees, shrubs and wildflowers, Gills Creek, and 2 public art tunnels. It will be a good location for a fast out and back race, and more leisurely runners might see members of the Greenway’s 129 species of birds or 25 species of mammals. The Race for the Rose will be the inaugural 5K on the Greenway and the United Way is honored to host this event!
All proceeds benefit the United Way of Lancaster County and their mission to address the most pressing needs in the areas of Health, Education and Financial Security in our community. United Way funds programs in 17 local nonprofits and has 8 initiatives to impact these areas and serves as the lead organization for the Lancaster Area Coalition for the Homeless, uniting the community in purpose to reduce the incidence and effects of home insecurity in Lancaster County.
After the race you can head just a mile down the road to the Red Rose Festival, the signature event of the City of Lancaster, for family fun. There will be craft and business vendors, food vendors, a Kids Zone, live music, an antique car show, a dog show and lots more!
